because of some unfortunate issues with WordPress, i’ve gotten an exciting offer to move. and i did. so now i’m over here.
this blog will remain up, as i can’t transfer my archives, and i kind of like them.
sorry for being a pain in the rear. oh, if for some reason you’ve still got my link to the blogger account listed, its completely deleted.
onward and upward. thanks to a certain Valkyrie for the hosting and design. you’re the ginchiest.

been a busy week, no?
getting my virtual freak on at work (read: new projects), not sleeping nearly enough (see the “harrumph” post, only much louder these past few days, as if that was possible) and changes coming soon to a favorite blog of yours (uh, my blog)
if you’re doing that St. Pat’s thing, have a designated driver or take a cab, willya? oh, and friends don’t let friends Riverdance.

it must be 5 o’clock spring break somewhere. i’m guessing its here.
Cape May is awakening from its peaceful winter slumber, i suppose. i didn’t get the memo, however. just hopped downstairs for a smoke and there were people(!) in the store, people standing around chatting outside. some elderly gentleman on the “husband bench” out front.
well, i am the one wearing rockin’ the flip flops at work today. but if you ever catch me in a velour one piece-unitard thingamaboo, shoot me. but only to maim. please.
ten depressing-as-all-hell movies March 10, 2006

it and when i say “depressing”, i don’t mean “weepy”. i mean straight out emotion & soul sucking. no documentaries or “based on a true story” films. movies that just leave you feeling empty, or spent. what? it can’t get any worse? of course it can
in no particular order:
1) Kids
2) Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
6) Magnolia
7) Short Cuts
9) Pi
runner’s up include: Kramer vs Kramer, Ordinary People
with the exception of “Vulgar” (which D and i almost didn’t make it through), i really enjoy these films and own quite a few of them. here you go, Lisa! tag, you’re it.

i don’t mind John Travolta. he doesn’t irritate me too much.
but this just isn’t okay in my world. Travolta is slated to star as Edna Turnblad in a remake of John Waters’ “Hairspray“, one of my favorite movies.
a) you can’t replace Divine (bless his weird soul) b) Harvey Fierstein (who played the role in the Broadway musical and subsequently won a Tony) should have gotten it, or taken it if offered.
John Travolta? woof.
the original movie only came out in 1988. a remake so soon?
Dr. Zhivago March 9, 2006

i should put this up where it belongs in the Movie Reviews. but.
Chris has been telling me for years that i’ve got to see this movie. that it is, clearly, the most depressing movie of all time. and while i don’t necessarily agree with that statement, it sure was a bummer.
Zhivago keeps trying to do the right thing. and after getting “kinda abducted” by those wiley Bolsheviks, just wants to get the hell home. and the poor bastard’s homes are continually hijacked, or abandoned. he can’t find his family. walks godknows how many miles in the snow. hallucinates. winds up at his mistress’ apartment. etc…it. just. gets. worse.
a timeless love story for generations? okay, i’ll buy it. even though i wanted to slap Lara around more than once. (and that freakin’ theme music…..) maybe i’m just not feeling sentimental this morning.
(netflix, Chris’ pick.)
a movie that i love but consider a helluva lot more depressing? Requiem for a Dream. read the book, its even better. talk about a lack of redemption. whoo-eee.

i’ve got ‘computer head’ from staring at Excel for several days straight, adding new stuff to the database, making corrections, deletions, etc…i’ve cut, copied and pasted more than a kindergartener.
just waiting for Archipelago to come in, so that i can carry about 11 40-50 pound boxes up those flippin’ stairs, hopefully keeping my uterus intact and in place. (that’s just for you, Diane. wish you were here to help.) fortunately, there isn’t anything currently lodged “up my ass”. but that could change in a moment’s notice.
the landlady is away for the month. (yippee!) but her almost completely deaf man-friend is staying in the house periodically, and staying in the apartment adjacent to ours (boo!). why “boo”, you ask? ‘almost completely deaf’ means the tv that he falls asleep watching is turned up to maximum volume. i awoke this morning (3am for those interested) to the sound of that freaky infomercial guy “you CAN DO IT!”
new entry in “scarlet” for those of you reading.

because i am, indeed, a dork, i like books on pop culture, lists of any kind, top 100 fill-in-the-blank-, etc… for the past few days i’ve been perusing through the Encyclopedia of Albums. i got it, and its companion, the Encyclopedia of Singles, from the ‘remainder’ bin at Borders. back when they still carried remainders in the store, but i digress. the copyright on it is 1999, so its not even remotely current. but i stumbled across a review of this album, and was instantly transported back to 1988.
Simple Mind’s “Once Upon a Time”? abso-freakin-lutely. i loved this damn album (okay, tape). c’mon now. think “All the Things She Said”. think “Sanctify Yourself”. and for god’s sake…(and sing it with me now, you know you want to) “Aliiiiive and Kickiiiiing”.
i think i’m going to have to go pick this up (hey, only a $1.80 used on Amazon!) and be instantly transported to my sophomore year of high school and making out with my senior quasi boyfriend.
you’ve got a song of theirs stuck in your head now, dontcha?
